Terminal @ Jai Thep Festival
After-hours Stage & Space
At the start of 2020, Hook was invited to design and build an after-hour stage & space for the amazing Jai Thep Festival in Chiang Mai Thailand, an amazing grass-root fantasy festival for the people, by the people, run by a tight knitted crew of like-minded individual that he is a part of.
Terminal functions as a day-time chill out in the woods, with lots of laid-back shaded area, and comes alive at 3 am when all other stages are closed down and the whole festival migrate to this space, the music then runs through sunrise all the way to 10 am.
It's an after-hour space that serves a very special function, a place that is safe and cosy, that nurtures interactions and explorations, a bridge between night and day, to keep the fire of the party alive to the new dawn. the magic is not the Terminal itself, but what it enabled you to experience there.
The space itself consists of a stage, multiple entrances, a dozen seating areas under the trees as well as a centre-piece which is a modded light-tree that acts as the heart of the space in the cold night. Constructed almost entirely from either locally-sourced bamboo and reclaimed bamboo, with a small amount of structural timber and fabrics where necessary.
