In late 2018 Aleksi moved back to Helsinki and started a Mandin spin-off bio-design studio called Caracara Collective. The studio creates art and design installations and collections using biowaste generated by society. They promote a new wave of sustainable Nordic design, envisioning a future without harmful materials, where waste is a resource.
Biohm is a London-based research and development led company that aims to promote a healthier and more sustainable built environment. Their philosophy is to allow nature to lead innovation and create systems that benefit the human, the environment and the economy.
Aleksi’s work with Biohm started in the summer of 2017 when he met the company’s founder Ehab Sayed while exhibiting his ‘Grown Structures’ project in London. Since joining Biohm as Material Development Manager, he has led exciting research on mycelium materials. With Biohm, he is currently refining their recipes and techniques. Biohm is aiming to gain accreditation and start to use the material buildings as insulation and in the future, structurally.
